[SOLVED] ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED Error in Chrome

Can there be anything wrong that losing your Internet connection? At one point or another, we all have been there and one of the most common error messages you’d get is ERR_NAME_RESOLUTION_FAILED.

If you use the Google Chrome Internet web browser on a Windows 10 computer, you might come across this error message when trying to access any number of websites. The good news this is that this error can be fixed!

If you’ve either gotten to Error Codes Pro because you are currently experiencing this error or if you are just looking for more information about this error, you have arrived at the right place.

In this article, I will give you all the information you will need in order to both understand this error and fix it in the most effective way. There is, of course, a lot of information about this error available online but researching it can be a bit of a pain in the neck.

So, I have done all the research so you won’t have to. This article is all you will need to read about this error no matter what your purpose is. Of course, our main goal is to show you how to fix this error in the most effective way.

For this, I will go over all the different methods to fix this error once and for all. Each and every one of the methods in this tutorial has been proven to work. You would be relieved to hear that, even though there are a few different methods to fix this error, it is also highly unly that you would need to try them all out before you can fix the error.

Having said all that, it is also a good idea to have a quite skim read through the tutorial before you go ahead and attempt to fix the error.

There are three main simple ways to fix this error that anyone, no matter what his or her level of computer expertise may be, should be able to fix it just by following the steps I will go over later in this article.

Having said that, and before I go over all those different methods, it is only fair to highlight that there is a quick work around this error.

If you were using a Windows 10 computer, you would also have access to the Internet Explorer (IE) web browser. So you can also launch IE briefly and check out whichever website that you were barred from accessing using Google Chrome.

Now, I know that using a different Internet web browser is not ideal. But, remember that this is not a solution to this error, but just an alternative so that you can access your website without further delay before you go ahead and fix the error.

In any case, you should always fix this error if you want to continue using the Google Chrome web browser.

Possible Fix Number 1:

The first possible fix involves resetting Netsh Winsock.

Do not worry if you don’t know how to do this. Here are the simple steps that you will need to follow in order to do this:

1. Grab your computer.
2. Press the following two keys at the same time: the Windows key and the X This action will make a menu display on your screen.
3. From among all the different options, choose the Command Prompt (Admin).
4. If you are prompted to confirm that you would to make changes, simply click on yes and move on. This confirmation will make the Command Prompt window to display on your screen.
5. In the Command Prompt window, you will need to type the following command: “ipconfig /release” [no quotation marks] and hit the Enter key.
6. In the Command Prompt window, you will need to type the following command: “ipconfig /all” [no quotation marks] and hit the Enter key.
7. In the Command Prompt window, you will need to type the following command: “ipconfig /flushdns” [no quotation marks] and hit the Enter key.
8. In the Command Prompt window, you will need to type the following command: “ipconfig /renew” [no quotation marks] and hit the Enter key.
9. In the Command Prompt window, you will need to type the following command: “netsh in tip set dns” [no quotation marks] and hit the Enter key.
10. In the Command Prompt window, you will need to type the following command: “netsh winsock reset” [no quotation marks] and hit the Enter key.
11. Finally, restart your computer.

Once your computer has fully restarted, you should launch the Google Chrome Internet web browser. Then, try to visit the website that you were barred from earlier because of this error.

If you have entered all the commands above carefully (i.e., without any typos and in the order they are presented), you should have gotten rid of the error. However, if you are sure that you did it all correctly and the problem persists, then you should move on to the next method.

Possible Fix Number 2:

The next method to deal with this error would involve changing your computer’s DNS address to Google DNS addresses (you can also revert to your DNS by removing any changes).

If you do not know how to change your DNS address to Google’s or at not sure how to do this, do not worry, the process is actually very simple and here it is:

1. Grab your computer.
2. Locate the Network connection on the bottom right-hand corner and right-click on it.
3. Then, select the Open Network and Sharing Center option and wait until it displays on a new window.
4. Once on the Open Network and Sharing Center, click on the Change adapter settings located on the left-hand side on the window.
5. Then right-click on your Internet connection and select Properties from among all the options.
6. Once on Properties, you will need to choose the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties.
7. Next, you will need to replace your preferred DNS server to the following 8.8.8.8
8. Following that, change your alternate DNS server to 8.8.4.4
9. Finally, click on the OK button.

Once you have followed all those steps, launch Google Chrome again and see if the error persists. If the issue continues, then move on to the next method. Before doing so, you may want to go over those same steps again but this time removing the Google DNS address (the previous ones will get automatically restored). But this is up to you.

Possible Fix Number 3:

The final method involves resetting Google Chrome. Here’s what you need to do:

1. Grab your computer.
2. Launch Google Chrome.
3. Enter the following in the address bar: “chrome://flags/” [no quotation marks].
4. Press the Enter
5. Locate the Reset all to default option (this is located on the right-hand side of the window) and select it.
6. Finally, launch Google Chrome again.

This should solve the problem once and for all.
